San Francisco School Alliance Staff
Since 2010 the School Alliance has undergone a dramatic transformation: the board has hired new leadership who are uniquely qualified to understand and play a significant role in education system reform in San Francisco. The new executive director and her staff have forged a deeper relationship with SFUSD and its leadership, building an unprecedented level of trust and collaboration.
Maisin Scholar Award Program Staff
The Maisin Scholar Award is an integral part of the mission of the San Francisco School Alliance. Our team works diligently to provide program and counseling support to our scholars that enable them to achieve post-secondary academic success and become career ready.
Sonya Brunswick, Director of the Maisin Scholar Award of the San Francisco School Alliance, has more than 25 years of experience working with youth from underserved communities in the U.S. and abroad as a youth and family counselor, youth director and pastor, and motivational speaker. Sonya has a diverse career background, having served in the United States Air Force, worked in the College Board’s International Education Department, later moving on to the Department of Agriculture as a computer and systems technician, a small business owner in real estate, and several years in Silicon Valley as a Systems & Network Engineer. Sonya has managed the Maisin Scholar Award Program since 2007, where she works to increase scholarship opportunities and funding, develop support services, and with her team in 2010, successfully implemented a counseling protocol that has increased community college first year retention rates to 86% for their scholars. Sonya Brunswick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Adolescent Development and Liberal Arts, and is licensed in the Clergy. She is a native San Franciscan, with strong Louisianan family roots and is affectionately referred to by the students as “Mrs. B”.
Amber is a graduate of The University of California, Berkeley and came to us from BUILD where she was a Business Incubator Manager.
Courtney Luxon joined SFSA in January 2013 as Maisin Program Coordinator. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has a passion for the nonprofit sector.
